Target releases statement why they are not carrying Frank Oceans “Channel Orange”
Frank Ocean and his team made the announcement yesterday that Target Stores would not be carrying his new album “Channel Orange.”
Frank’s rep “Christian Clancy” tweeted out of emotions suggesting that Target wasn’t carrying the new album due to Frank opening up about his sexuality. Christian Tweeted:
“Target has refused to carry Franks album because of Itunes exclusive. Interesting since they also donate to non equal rights organizations.”
Target today has responded to their claims via Billboard denying the rumors. Target explains why they are not carrying Franks new album “Channel Orange” explaining:
“The claims made about Target’s decision to not carry the Frank Ocean album are absolutely false. Target supports inclusivity and diversity in every aspect of our business. Our assortment decisions are based on a number of factors, including guest demand.
“Target has a longstanding tradition of supporting music and artistry that reflects the diverse landscape of American culture. Our history of partnering with diverse artists includes recent partnerships with a variety of musicians, such as Ricky Martin, B.o.B., and Gloria Estefan.”
Since Target has released their statement, Franks rep “Christian Clancy” has apologized for his tweet saying:
“I apologize for my comments about Target. They are not carrying Frank’s album because it went digital first. Not for ANY other reason. … My response was simply an emotional knee jerk reaction. … Stop. Breath. Do the best you can. Be honest. Keep it moving.”
Target quickly started taking the heat when it was assumed that they were not carrying the album due to Frank Oceans sexuality. Now, that the rumor has been put to rest and lawyers can now rest.
It’s great to know that Frank Oceans new album is still receiving a tremendous amount of love and support (even if it isn’t sold at Target).
